Main Article Content
Abstract
The new, Hungarian developed, 100 % low-floor, air-conditioned, articulated IkarusSkoda Trl87.2 type trolleybuses were put in service in 2013-14 in Szeged. These trolleybuses have the ability to roll with batteries independent of the catenary. In this article we discuss in details the development trends of the traction batteries as well as their operation in different environments. We give a summary about the experiences, and their demonstration run within the Eliptic-project framework. We give an outlook to the possibility of the extension of the trolleybus operation in battery mode, and the charging capability of electric midi buses from the catenary.
