The Hungarian Basketball Association has strengthened the system of traditional association youth development system with an accredited academy network, which system is complemented by state-recognized academies also. The survey, which asked all the direct stakeholders of the youth development system, analyzed the comments related to the talent management process and the factors affecting success. Among the success factors, the coaches consider the players’ positive character traits to be the most important, followed by the coach’s motivation, methodological knowledge, and professional knowledge. Among the influencing factors, the coaches rated the role of managers the lowest. According to the coach’s answers, becoming a successful coach is mostly determined by the coach’s pedagogical and psychological knowledge. Although the coaches attach special importance to pedagogical and psychological knowledge, the qualifications do not substantiate this opinion.
