Abstract

The possibility to find a job and other questions regarding to employment are important concerns even for prospective students at the time of their application to a higher education institution. Choosing a major, important selection criteria are the expectations on finding a job soon after graduation with a high wage offer and within their profession. Or main research question is how ‘realistic’ the examined bachelor students see their future on the job market: in what time they think they will find a job, and what wage they think they will earn? We compare two datasets to find the answer. The first data set is from a survey among bachelor level business students of the University of Debrecen, conducted in Fall 2015. The second dataset is made of the databases of the Hungarian Carrier Tracking Survey from 2013. As a result, we have found that – compared to the carrier tracking responses – the students overestimate both their starting net earnings and their chance to find a job related to their profession.
