European values in the dynamics of tradition and innovation

Abstract

Cultures are characterised by a constant dynamism of tradition and innovation. From the modern era onwards, from the 17th to the 18th century, European culture can be considered unique in its critical engagement with tradition and in the creation of a new set of values and a new world-view, closely linked to technological innovation. This has shaped the current values of the European Union. Focusing on modern European values, this paper aims to explore some aspects of the dynamics of tradition and innovation.
